Many people can change a lamp shade without needing any special tools or hiring professionals. First, measure the fitter size of the lamp. Then order a corresponding shade. Unscrew the thumb screws that are holding on to your current shade and switch it out for your new one!

First unplug the lamp and remove the light bulb. Then unscrew with your fingers the decorative screw that holds the lampshade in place by using your fingers. Next, squeeze the socket shell and pull it out of the lamp base. Loosen the set-screw on the lamp socket base by using a screwdriver or any other tool you have handy and then gently pull on all of wires until they are free from inside of it. You can attach this new one now by following these steps in reverse order so that you end up with a new working light fixture!
Step 1: Unscrew the light bulb.
Step 2: Spray paint the hardware.
Step 3: Paint the threaded sockets of your light fixture.
Step 4: Put together a new light fixture makeover assembly.
If the light does not work with a new bulb, check the circuit breaker or fuse. The problem might be that the old bulb went out as soon as it was turned on. If that is not the case, try cleaning the socket in the fixture.
Step One: Measure the light fixture to make sure you order a size that fits.
Step Two: Take down your old lamp shade and clean any dirt or dust off of it.
Step Three: Paint from top to bottom if necessary, then let dry.
Step Four: Attach new bulbs and plug in for instant update!
Step Five: Keep your new lamp shade clean. Dust on the top will make it look dirty quickly because of how close to the ceiling it is. Use a feather duster, damp cloth or dry vacuum cleaner with brush attachment if necessary.
Step One: Get a stepladder.
Step Two: Reach up to remove the light bulb from its socket, unscrewing it with your fingers if necessary.
Step Three: Remove the screw that holds in place the decorative cover and then pull out on all of the wires until they are free from inside of it.
Step Four: Gently pull on the wires until they are free from inside of it.
Step Five: Follow these same steps in reverse order to put your new lamp shade up!
